Trainings for Alumnae Small grant projects in Karaganda

Since 1992 U.S. Government-funded exchange programs have brought more than 8,000 Kazakhstani citizens to the United States for training. Among them, there are teachers of English who each year go to the USA to master their professional skills in leading universities of the country. They take part in the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program. Two teachers of Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Kokshetau, Zhanna Aubakirova and Gulnar Abileva are alumnae of this program. In 2013 they went to the US for the 6 – week training course and developed their professionalism in the States of California (Chico State University) and Ohio (Bowling Green State University).

This program gives participants an opportunity to obtain knowledge and develop skills in their fields of expertise, and establish valuable contacts with U.S. colleagues. On coming back the teachers, alumni of the program, are provided with support as to establish networking, to further the professional development, to apply for the Alumni Small Grants Program.

The U.S. Embassy in Astana and General Consulate in Almaty are committed to supporting alumni by introducing them to resources based upon their exchange experience and facilitating the connection of alumni of USG programs across Kazakhstan.

2017-2018 Alumni Small Grants Program: the United States Embassy Public Affairs Section is now accepting applications to its Alumni Grants Program.  The purpose of this program is to assist the alumni and their colleagues in the implementation and dissemination of the concepts that they explored during their exchange programs.

Awards may be used for the following:

  • to initiate volunteering programs;
  • to support alumni networking events focusing on building leadership skills, mentoring programs, or professional development;
  • to organize training programs or conferences for professional colleagues and/or other alumni;

In February, 15-16, 2017, the U.S. Embassy in Astana organized the regional training for alumni of the US programs in Karaganda. The facilitators of the training guided the participants through the application form, assisted alumni in developing ideas and writing a draft of their project. It was a fruitful collaboration; everyone got ideas for further work. There were meaningful and productive sessions on previous success projects as well as budget writing.

The participants were awarded certificates as active members of the USG Alumni Training.
